What is happening at the United States Capitol building is not a peaceful protest and completely un-American. Storming the U.S. Capitol and physically harming and pepper spraying police officers is criminal, brutish, and not appropriate. It is absolutely unacceptable.
This is not how we lose in a democratic republic. The Republican party stands for individual freedom and the rule of law, not anarchy and lawlessness. We lost. As a party we need to refocus our efforts on the principles of conservatism, reducing the burden of government, addressing social and racial inequities through upward mobility and economic opportunity. We need to heal the great divides that have plagued us and find a way to see our neighbors who think differently than us, as fellow Americans, not enemies.
Washington D.C. has too much power over our lives. More and more people are looking to government to solve their problems. This is a mistake. We instead must look to each other. America's greatness lies not in its government, but in its people. We are better than today, we have to be better than this.
