Dear Constituents, Happy Pioneer Day this weekend to you and your family! As we celebrate our state's heritage and pioneer spirit, I've been thinking a lot about my own ancestors who were pioneer saints who pulled hand carts across the plains, in search of religious freedom and a place to call home. I am so grateful for their courage, grit, faith, and sacrifice; they truly embody America's pioneering spirit. I hope you have an enjoyable weekend filled with family, friends, and great food! Be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday, August 14th for a joint town hall with me, Rep. Teuscher, and Sen. Fillmore at 1 pm at Herriman City Hall. We'll be discussing legislation we're working on and answering questions on issues important to you! Redistricting
The official nonpartisan Legislative redistricting website – redistricting.utah.gov – is now live. The website will contain the most up-to-date redistricting information and will provide details on how Utahns can participate in the process. This past week I attended the National Conference for State Legislatures’ Redistricting Conference to discuss and learn more about issues related to redistricting. I look forward to representing our area on this important committee. You can stay up-to-date by following the Legislative Redistricting Committee on social media: Twitter & Facebook.
Salt Lake Community College & University of Utah Campus Groundbreaking
I appreciated the opportunity to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new SLCC Juniper Campus in Herriman. This campus is the first of its kind and will host two colleges in partnership, both the University of Utah and Salt Lake Community College. This campus has been in the works for 10 years, Herriman City has made serious investments in this property and has been a great partner in working with the state and SLCC. I am so excited for what this campus means to our area—from new high school graduates to individuals seeking to go back to school after taking time off, this will be a game changer in making education a more viable option.
Drought Optimizing Utah’s water supply continues to be a critical issue, one that the Utah House of Representatives has been working on for many years. Now more than ever, creative conservation efforts are needed. It was just reported this week that the Great Salt Lake has dropped to a record-setting low. Utah Lake, which is the source of Riverton’s secondary water, is at 60% capacity, which is the level it was at, at the end of last year’s summer. To learn about the little changes you can make that will make a big difference, check out slowtheflow.org. Click here to read more. It was great to see so many of you and Herriman Frontier Days and Riverton Town Days! I am grateful to have the opportunity to represent you, to work with you and for you, on issues important to our district and state. Please feel free to email me at cpierucci@le.utah.gov with legislative concerns you might have.
